Gone are the days when custom showers depended on cement board walls and messy mortar “mud beds.” Although this method is traditionally the most economical option, the materials themselves present significant drawbacks. Their brittle nature makes them prone to cracking and leaking as the home settles over time, and the construction process itself often results in uneven tile alignment and an unsatisfactory overall look for the shower.

Our process begins with constructing a waterproof shell, as shown in the first image. We tape and seal every seam to create a completely waterproof enclosure, which means that, unlike traditional methods, the tile serves a purely decorative purpose rather than functioning as part of the waterproofing element in the showers we construct.
This particular project showcases a striking hexagonal tile pattern for the shower tray, but there are endless options for both tile patterns and drain gates. Another notable feature is the subway tile arrangement on the walls – this is a design that our client found in a décor magazine, and we were proud to be able to deliver a faithful recreation in her home.
This shower demonstrates several features that showcase our commitment to personalization, such as:
- The distinctive tile pattern, which we laid out for her approval and adjusted as she requested.
- We designed a custom-sized niche specifically to accommodate her product bottles rather than conform to standard dimensions.
- Discreet face towel hooks installed at either end of the niche, which was an unconventional but practical feature our client specifically requested.
French-style glass doors, custom-fit to the opening and featuring black hardware, finish off the installation. They complement the client’s chosen black-and-white décor theme.
